All building

Jacobs Institute Spark Grant, and the SCET BMoE Bootcamp. Spring 2022.

DogDoc was the first name the idea had. In June 2021 our family dog Lily died giving birth, of something good veterinary care would have caught. That summer, dogs were being trained to sniff out COVID in airports around the world. DogDoc put the two together: if dogs can detect disease, and we can read what’s happening in a dog while it smells, then disease detection can be built on the dog, and it can work for dogs as well as for people.

The pitch

In January 2022 I took DogDoc to the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology’s BMoE bootcamp, a week of turning research into a company, and pitched it as COVID screening for airports.

The grant

A Spark Grant from the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation then funded the build: an EEG headset for dogs, made at the Jacobs makerspace, which became my honors thesis. The proposal also sketched where it could go next, with trained street dogs back home in Belagavi.
